LaJoyce L. Porter

LaJoyce L. Porter is a sole practitioner in Walnut Creek, CA. She has been practicing education law since 2006. She quit working as an insurance defense attorney to advocate for her two special needs daughters, who are now adults. Her oldest daughter works at Amazon. Her youngest daughter lives in Los Angeles and is currently attending acting school.

Ms. Porter was born and raised in Oakland, CA. She attended Oakland Public Schools from Kindergarten until she graduated from Fremont High School in 1988.

Prior to practicing education law, Ms. Porter worked at several Bay Area law firms where she practiced workers’ compensation, insurance defense, and civil litigation. She represented insurers, third party administrators and self-insured employers in workers’ compensation, subrogation and civil litigation throughout the Bay Area. Most of her clients were Fortune 500 corporations. Ms. Porter also served as in-house counsel for Liberty Mutual Insurance and Travelers.

Ms. Porter enjoys traveling to other countries, spending time with her two adult daughters and hiking with her two rescue dogs, Crazy Daisy and Prince Harry. A few interesting things about Ms. Porter that you might not know: She was a member of the Fremont High School 1988 State Championship Team that beat Lisa Leslie’s Morningside High School team; She played on the USF Women’s Team her freshman year and quit to become the mascot (USF Don); She red-shirted on Arizona State Women’s Basketball team, but returned to USF to graduate; She loves to snorkel and has snorkeled in all of the Hawaiian Islands, Jamaica, Cancun, Cozumel, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Zihuantanejo and the Cayman Islands; She probably inherited her love of the ocean from her father, who is a Cuban-American who used to catch fish with his hands as a young boy in Cuba.  She loves loves loves Hallmark movies, especially the Christmas movies that she watches year-round.
